The Dales Way Diet

Last Friday, Year 5 helped Mr Nicholson think more about what he will need to eat and drink whilst running the 82 mile Dales Way. Following a discussion about the event and what it entails, the Year 5’s researched the nutrition needed to support an adult runner for 20 hours.

They looked at the different food groups, what they provide and the pros and cons of using each. Some groups concentrated on food whilst others were interested in what liquids a runner needs to perform. The class worked out that Mr Nicholson would ‘burn’ about 15,000 calories on his run (that’s 6 days worth of energy and food!), so the children began looking at foods that had high calorie, high fat foods like dried fruit, nuts and even chocolate milk (Mr Nicholson’s favourite!!).

The class were keen to research and help Mr Nicholson in preparation for his run on the 27th and 28th May 2018. You can read more about Mr Nicholson’s Run, and donate to his cause, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation on his JustGiving page.

Best of luck from Form 5 Mr N!
