V.I.Pupil Unveils Store Refurb

Ilkley Carnival Cover Competition winner Ava, in Form 5, was invited to the exclusive opening of the town’s new Tesco store.

Ava joined organisers from the Ilkley Carnival, staff from the Ilkley store, and local unsung hero Lynnda Smith to cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Store Manager Sarita Prashar said before the ceremony: “You should all be very proud as you have all helped make this new store such a success.”

Hundreds of Ava’s bags were being handed out to shoppers, as well as champagne and nibbles from the Tesco Finest range, making the re-opening a wonderful celebration.

Afterwards, the management team personally thanked Ava, presenting her with a box of chocolates for her wonderful design, with Sarita stating that she chose the design as her winner. She said: “It was colourful, bright and I knew it would look great on the shopping bags.”

Ava has been enjoying the many deserved prizes from her win, which she has also been able to share with friends. She received over 100 of her bags to share amongst her peers at school, lots of Bettys goodies, and a cookery workshop with Junior Chefs’ Academy for Ava and her classmates.

The budding artist said: “I didn’t think all this would happen because I didn’t expect to win. I’m very sporty and didn’t think I was any good at art.”
