Ava Jones in Form 5 has produced a fantastic design which has won the Ilkley Carnival cover competition.
The ‘At the Movies’ theme saw an impressive collection of submissions from local and independent schools in the Ilkley area.
Miss Smith asked Form 5 pupils to create a cover for the Carnival programme. They spent time writing down their ideas before putting pencil to paper and submitting their designs.
Ava’s design, a smiling tub of popcorn surrounded by her favourite Disney characters, was chosen by a panel to appear on the front cover of this year’s Carnival programme. The judges said that Ava’s poster was “colourful, fun, and sums up what the day is about.”
Ava is delighted that her design won:
“I really enjoy colouring and drawing so winning the competition is a real confidence booster.”
As winner, Ava’s design will be on the cover of every Carnival programme, as well as on 5,000 bags which will be printed and handed out at the Tesco store in Ilkley. The Carnival’s main sponsor Betty’s has also promised a goody bag full of treats for Ava to enjoy.
Tesco, the event’s main sponsor, has organised a Junior Chef’s Academy workshop for Ava and up to 30 of her school friends to learn about living a healthy lifestyle whilst also creating healthy recipes that they can recreate at home.
Ava said: “I’m so happy that my whole class gets to enjoy the prize, and I can’t believe so many bags will have my design on.”
Mr Martin was delighted with the news. He said:
“Ava’s design is fantastic and well deserving of first place in the cover competition. We’re very proud of her achievement and would like to thank our art teacher Mrs Smith for her dedication and passion for creating, which clearly rubs off on our talented pupils.”
There were three runners up, including Bea and Evie in Form 5 for their designs. They will also receive a Betty’s goody bag.
