Wharfedale Festival 2023

Ghyll Royd pupils took part in this year’s Wharfedale Festival.

You cannot underestimate the importance of public speaking.

When you start in the working world, you may have to address large interview panels, present in meetings, run a workshop or, like our teachers, command a classroom.

We give our children regular opportunities to speak publicly whether that be in assembly, in school council meetings, at events or more recently in the Wharfedale Speech and Drama Festival.

The children taking part represented themselves brilliantly in the Speech and Drama Festival, held at The Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley.

All the children recited their poems beautifully and with confidence, receiving brilliant feedback on their abilities and confidence. Mrs Beeson who helped each child with their poem was so impressed with each performer.

Well done to the individuals who received placements and a medal:
Nell (3rd, F3), Olivia S (2nd, F5), Josh (2nd, F6), Cameron (3rd, F6).
Annabelle received a gold medal in chocolate form from Betty’s for her brilliant recital!

Public speaking is confidence building. The more we try, the easier it becomes. Ghyll Royd pupils will be on stage once again in the coming weeks. The Key Stage 2 performance of ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean‘ is on Thursday 29th July 2023. The children ARRRR really looking forward to the show.

Nell received 3rd prize in the Wharfedale Festival.
