Ghyll Royd sport goes for gold

Ghyll Royd pupils celebrating their success in the orienteering league

Ghyll Royd School and Pre-School are pleased to announce that they have achieved Gold status in this year’s School Games Mark.

The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.

The school reviewed its view on sport from how it gets children interested in sport, what sport the school offers and how much we participate in physical activity to determine our mark. We are delighted to have achieved Gold and will work towards Platinum status in the new school year!

Headteacher Mr Martin said: “As I have a background in fitness, an emphasis of Physical Education has always been a top priority for me as Headteacher. Our teachers and children are outside or in the hall every single day trying out new sports, learning new skills and getting out and about meeting other school children in fixtures. Thank you to Andrew Sharples for involving Ghyll Royd in this year’s Bradford sports leagues! It has been a tremendous year with our children reaching finals in Quicksticks Hockey, Tag Rugby and Orienteering. We cannot wait to see what next year brings!”
