Ghyll Royd School’s Headteacher Mr David Martin was almost out of a job when Eeyore came to visit on World Book Day! The beloved donkey from the Winnie the Pooh book series visited Ghyll Royd last Thursday. Eeyore met children in the nursery and school with hugs, hi-fives and books. He then settled into the headteacher’s office to file some important paperwork!
Ghyll Royd children came dressed as a delightful array of characters including Awful Auntie, Harry Potter, Cinderella, Mad Hatter and Mr Twit! The school celebrated their favourite stories with fun fiction games. In years 3 and 4, the children had to match the book title to its French name. In year 5, the children had a quiz and then played taboo to guess the character without using certain words.
Headteacher David Martin said: We had lots of fun and a lot of effort went into creating the costumes. With our small class sizes, we hear each child read every day. World Book Day is a celebration of those stories and the wonderful imaginations of our children fuelled by a creative curriculum!”
