Two Ghyll Royd pupils impressed a panel of experts at the Northern Dance Centre over the half term holidays. Auditions for the Margaret Allenby-Jaffe Ballet Scholarship were held on Saturday 3rd June in the Centre’s Skipton dance studio.
We’re delighted to announce that Georgie in Form 3 won the Junior level scholarship and Verity in Form 6 was awarded the Senior scholarship!
The Scholarship is in memory of Northern Dance Centre’s founder Margaret Allenby-Jaffe who received the British Empire Medal for services to dance. The award recognises dancers who show awareness of musicality, awareness of each other and of the “audience”, innate stage presence and graceful presentation.
Georgie and Verity are very hardworking and are two wonderfully talented young ballerinas who are a joy to teach. The pair are two of several pupils who take part in weekly extracurricular ballet sessions at Ghyll Royd taught by Miss Amy Addison and Miss Fiona Forfar. The girls will receive the Scholarship Shield, a trophy to keep and a year’s free ballet classes, to start the following September, a medal and a certificate.
Well done Georgie and Verity! We couldn’t be prouder!
You can see more details about the auditions and scholarship on the Northern Dance Centre website.
If your child has achieved something new, or has a special hobby they’d like to talk to us about, please send in your certificates/work/awards and any pictures to Miss Wilson in the School Office.
