Bienvenido Reception!

Mrs Smith said ‘hola!’ to Reception on Tuesday morning in their first ever Modern Foreign Languages lesson.

The children learnt a magical song with the help of Rosa the puppet called ‘¿Cómo te llamas?’ which means ‘What is your name?’

The class all learnt the words with Mrs Smith and Rosa, and when Rosa pointed at someone, they would have to shout their name, which the children very much enjoyed. Reception also enjoyed learning numbers 1 to 10 in their first lesson and could be heard greeting teaching staff (‘Hola!) on their way back to the classroom!

It has been proven that children can pick up a new language quicker than an adult due to them still being in a language learning stage, and also by having the focus and motivation to learn. All children from Reception to Form 6 receive weekly Spanish and French tuition from the very talented Art and Modern Foreign Language teacher Mrs Smith to help them develop and learn a second language in advance of their secondary school lessons.
