Key Stage Two pupils went head to head in their school houses to compete in the annual swimming gala.
On Thursday morning pupils arrived at Ilkley Swimming Pool ready for a morning of friendly competition as they swam to win extra house points.
Parents and teachers gathered by the poolside to cheer on their sons and daughters.
Teams from Drake, Nelson and Rodney swam in their individual lanes in :
- Seven heats of Front Crawl
- Seven heats of Breaststroke
- Six heats of Backstroke
The pupils cheered on their teammates with their spectacular Ghyll Royd spirit as the swimmers made their way to the finish point. Swim coaches from the children’s weekly lessons were also there to officiate the races and cheer on pupils.
Points were added to the winning teams total from each heat.
Ten points was awarded to swimmers in first place, eight points to second, six points to third, four points to fourth, and two points to fifth place.
Mr Martin revealed the scores after each race, which kept the adrenaline and excitement going as each house had their moment at the top spot.
There was then a ‘Medley Race of Excellence’ where each team’s best swimmers competed in a four length swim made up of butterfly, breaststroke, front crawl and backstroke to try and win major points for their houses.
The gala ended with a bit of fun where each pupil swam a length to see who could swim the fastest.
