We’ve had another sport-filled Wednesday at Ghyll Royd. The Girls Netball team went across to Belmont Grosvenor whilst our U9 and U11 football teams played at home. We also had a very special visit from cricket coach Dave Cooper.

GRS Girls Netball V Moorlands School

On Wednesday 25th January the U10 Girls Netball team played a match against Moorlands School from Leeds. This was the return fixture from when they beat us in November 5-1. That had been a close game so we knew this match was going to be tight.

We started brightly, scoring two quick points against Moorlands, displaying quick passing and ruthless finishes. From that point on we were never behind, and kept Moorlands back even when they pressurised us in the second and third quarters.

Our attacking four played well keeping the ball away from defenders, but it was our defenders that won the match for us. Madeline, Bryony, Phoebe Roe and Evie came together to keep out Moorland’s strong attacking players.

The final score was 13-10 to us.

GRS Netball V Belmont Grosvenor

On Wednesday we had a netball match at Belmont Grosvenor.

Both teams played really well at the start and we were winning through goals from Ava and Bea but when the final whistle blew it turned out that we drew 7-7. Belmont Grosvenor were a tough team so we all had to work hard!

Football

On Wednesday we had an Under 9 and Under 11 Football festival with Lady Lane and Belmont Grosvenor. It was a lovely afternoon the sun shone over the moor and the pitch was not too muddy.

All the teams played really well with players on both sides showing lots of skill and ability. The Lady Lane goalkeeper was awesome and stopped loads of shots. We look forward to welcoming the teams back next year.

Cricket nets

On Wednesday Dave Cooper came to Cricket nets and helped out with Mr Martin. Dave taught us how to do the straight bat (front foot drive).
During the session we practiced the front foot drive off of tees.

Later on, we played against the bowling machine. Everyone enjoyed the session and will enjoy for weeks to come! The sessions run for Year 3 through to Year 6. We want to say a really big thanks to Dave Cooper.
