A pupil at Ghyll Royd School enjoys a level and variety of physical education that far exceeds the national average, helping to support our Healthy Schools Programme.
Our all-inclusive policy ensures that every child, regardless of ability or age, take part in and enjoy elements of the national curriculum, our own Games provision and also the opportunity to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
The Physical Education and Games Curriculum is taught by specialist teachers, who help develop skills and techniques across many disciplines. Children, from the age of two, enjoy the expertise of our qualified teachers, making full use of the sports hall and sports field facilities.
The Physical Education and Games Curriculum is underpinned by Inter-House sporting competitions, School Sports Partnership Leagues, annual events and regional and national competitions. Children enjoy developing their skills through a variety of activities including tennis, badminton, basketball, dodgeball, gymnastics, ballet, swimming, dance, orienteering, athletics and cross country.
The more traditional sports of rugby, netball, football, hockey, athletics, rounders and cricket are also taught in weekly afternoon Games sessions to KS2 children, who enjoy friendly and competitive fixtures and festivals with both independent and state schools in the area. Children from Reception to Year 6 also enjoy a half hour of swimming every week, which takes place at our local pool.
