At Ghyll Royd School we teach Spanish to all children from Reception, adding French in Forms 5 and 6, as part of the normal school curriculum.
Children enjoy learning to speak other languages through song, real-life situations, puppetry and practical games. This fosters their interest and introduces young children to languages in a way that is enjoyable and fun, whilst also fostering their listening and speaking skills.
We teach the children to know and understand how to:
- ask and answer questions
- use correction pronunciation and intonation
- memorise words
- interpret meaning
- understand basic grammar
- use dictionaries
- work in pairs and groups, and communicate in the other language
- look at life in another culture
The LanguageNut programme allows children to continue their love of language learning at home. Ghyll Royd children can form a comprehensive understanding of words and phrases through practice as well as listening and spelling games.
