Charity Fundraising
Ghyll Royd is always keen to support and raise money for local and national charity events. Recent fund raisers include:
Red Nose 2013
On Friday 15th March, Red Nose Day at Ghyll Royd saw Amy Winehouse, Elvis Presley and Olly Murs. Dressed as pop stars for the day, the children celebrated Red Nose Day in style. The children wrote their own red nose themed poetry which they read out in assembly, followed by a rendition of the official Red Nose Day song. Each child donated £1 for the privilege, raising over £100 for Comic Relief.
Martin House
The children have been busy baking buns in order to raise funds for Martin House. Both parents and children whipped up a wonderful selection of cakes that were sold by Form 6 at break-time. Pam Ravenscroft from Ilkley Friends of Martin House
visited Ghyll Royd to sample some of the cakes and thank the children for their support. She was thrilled that the event raised over £150.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
On Friday 28th September 2012 we had a Macmillan Cancer Coffee Morning to raise money for this wonderful charity. We invited all parents and grandparents to come along and have a coffee and a cake. The cakes made by the parents, were judged and ‘Betty’s Gift Vouchers’ were awareded to the top three bakes – based on taste and presentation. We raised a splendid £176.32! Many thanks to all who contributed.
Rays of Sunshine
On Friday 15th June 2012 children came with their pyjamas in their bags. At lunchtime the children changed into their pyjamas and had a ‘midnight feast’ of pizza, milkshakes and ice-cream. They then enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at the Ghyll Royd Cinema! Children donated £2 each and other products supporting Rays of Sunshine were sold to raise more funds. Two raffles were also held during the event. We raised over £500 for Rays of Sunshine in total!
World Cancer Research Fund
On Friday 18th May 2012 we went ‘bananas’ for the World Cancer Research Fund. All children came to school in their uniform but had to add a yellow item to their clothing ie yellow socks, yellow striped tie, yellow headband, yellow baseball cap etc. At playtime the children could try a banana based product to try. Each child brought in 50p to participate in the taster session.
Marie Curie Cancer Care
On Thursday 19th April 2012 we took part in the Sports Relief Swimathon for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The children swam 23.7 miles averaging 29 lengths per child (725 metres). We were extremely proud of how well the children swam, and for how long they kept swimming for. The Swimathon this year saw an amazing 26,000 swimmers completing their challenges in 645 pools across the UK! Thank you to Mr Martin for coordinating our super event, here at Ghyll Royd. We raised a FANTASTIC £1,322.10.
