Ghyll Royd 2 Brackenfield 3
Ghyll Royd lost against Brackenfield but we needed to pass a bit more. It was a close game with Joe Hood scoring the tries. Next time we’ll beat them!
Football match report by Connor Allan - SSP Astro Football - Ghyll Royd 5 Menston 4
An exciting game, the first Ghyll Royd goal was an own goal by the Menston defender, but assisted by Harrison, which levelled the game to 1 – 1. Callum scored the next two goals, which were followed soon after by Harrison and Jordan. In between all these, Callum also hit the post, Harrison hit the crossbar and had a shot saved. A fantastic result from a superb team performance.
Dodge Ball Match Report by Lillaby Morse and Jessica Van Beek
Well we drew 5- 5 against Burley Oaks and did very well. Lillaby and Annabel were the catchers.. Annabel caught one and Lillaby caught four or five. We all dodged them very well. We had six people on our team and they were Annabel, Jessica, Maddy, Imogen, Emily, and Lillaby. In the first match they won and then the second match we won, the third match we drew and then we won and then it ended up being a draw. When we won, there was one person at the end and we were taught that we could go into their space and hit them but then we weren’t allowed but we were let off. There were only six balls so each team got three balls each. Emily did a great throw at the last 5 second on the last match.
SSP Basketball match report by Callum Worts - Ghyll Royd 12 Menston 4
On Tuesday 24 January year five went to play Menston at IlkleyGrammar School. The game was played over three periods. In period one, there were baskets scored by Callum (2) who opened the scoring, Alex (2) and Archie (1). It was intense and we got caught up pitch and Menston broke away and scored the first of their two baskets. In the second period Menston came back stronger and gained another basket but Ghyll Royd were soon to respond when a great passing move involving everyone in the team, led to another basket scored by Callum. The third period had opportunities for Luke, Alex, Edward, Archie and Callum, who all came close. The period ended scoreless.
The final whistle was blown and Ghyll Royd had won their second basketball fixture on the bounce. The final score was Ghyll Royd 12-4 Menston.
SSP Winter league Year 5 Netball—match report by Lillaby Morse
On Thursday we had a netball match against Burley Oaks. We didn’t have enough people in our team so we kept on swapping over so sometimes we were against each other and sometimes we were playing with them. The score was Burley Woodhead 13 Ghyll Royd 1 but we didn’t even score the one that we got! but it was quite good for our second or third match. I thought we all played well and we all had great fun so that was ok.
Lewis Booth 7’s match report by Harper Smith and Freddie Scott
On a cold, wet Sunday afternoon Ghyll Royd played rugby at Malsis. Out first match was against Malsis, they got an early try (that gave us a wake up call). They then ran one into the corner and scored. They then made a run and Edward made a terrific tackle then we moved up and Freddie scored then that match finished the over all score was 5 Ghyll Royd—15 Malsis.
We played Ampleforth for our second match we didn’t score in the first half but we all played really well. In the second half.
Jordan made a break with a quick penalty by Freddie. The final score was Ampleforth 30 Ghyll Royd 5.
We were not disappointed because we all played our very best.
In the first half against Terrington Hall we were all very cold because we had a long break after Ampleforth. Terrington scored three tries so they were on top of the game. Second half was the best half we had played so far because we were all warm by then. Out of the scrum Terrington attempted to kick the ball twice. But Freddie charged them down twice. On the second time Freddie picked up the ball from the charge down and dived threw the Terrington defence. Then Harrison passed the ball wide and Freddie scored by diving. We all played extremely well. The finals score was 15 Terrington—Ghyll Royd 10.
Our next game was the semi final of the plate. We came on the pitch with our heads raised high after Terrington. In the first half we didn’t do as well as we hoped to but we defended as well as we could. In the second half Sedbergh were tackling high which got the team wanting to win. We were all tackling really hard. At the very end Harper tried to go for a try but it was sadly held up so we got a scrum. Edward passed it wide to Freddie and Freddie side stepped the players and scored. The final score was Ghyll Royd 5 Sedbergh 10.
Westville House Rugby 7’s match report by Callum Worts
Ghyll Royd 10-0 Westville
Ghyll Royd started the tournament positively, beating the host team 10-0 in the first match. Jordan opened the scoring, with a try in the corner. Ghyll Royd dominated the match, an exceptional result
Ghyll Royd 7-0 Brackenfield
Another great performance led to another convincing victory. Good tries from Adam, Jordan, Alex D, Freddie and Ed C.
Conversions from the always reliable Ed C were 100% accurate. This victory left Ashville still to play.
Ghyll Royd 1-2 Ashville College
Ashville were tough opponents, a hard fought match from the Ghyll Royd perspective. We didn’t deserve a loss, it was very unlucky. The conceded tries just couldn’t be helped. Alex broke away to score our only try. We went through in second in the group.
Ghyll Royd 0-3 Terrington Hall
Terrington had gone through 1st in their group so it was a tough fight. Terrington had brought their A- game and we just couldn’t stop them. Sadly, we got knocked out of the tournament.
