A message from our new Headteacher
Welcome to the Ghyll Royd School website.
Whether you are a regular visitor, or if this is your first visit, I hope you will enjoy browsing this site and find it to be a useful source of information about life at Ghyll Royd.
I have recently and proudly accepted the position of Head of Ghyll Royd. I have taught all primary school age groups for the past 18 years and have enjoyed my time as Head of Lady Royd Preparatory School, part of Bradford Girls’ Grammar School for the past 3 years. As I live locally, I know what a fantastic reputation Ghyll Royd already has and I very much look forward to working alongside the delightful children, a dedicated and enthusiastic staff team, supportive parents and a committed board of governors.
Ghyll Royd is a thriving, happy and friendly school where everyone is valued and respected. Children are encouraged and praised so they feel confident in their abilities and know how to succeed. Aspirational goals are constantly set for each individual therefore academic standards are high. Over the past 8 years all Form 6 pupils have been offered places at their secondary school of choice. Last year Form 6 children not only went to the school of their choice but 43% of these received scholarships to high calibre independent schools or gained places at Ermysted’s Grammar School, Skipton.
Opportunity for all children is the key to moulding skilful and well balanced individuals. At Ghyll Royd sport and music as well as a wide range of other extra-curricular provision is easily accessible. Children of all ages have ample opportunities to find and shape their talents.
The partnerships that are formed between pupils, staff and parents are an essential element to Ghyll Royd’s success. Parents are encouraged to take an active part in their child’s education; fostering strong communication between home and school is a key factor in ensuring a child realises their full potential throughout from a very young age. The school’s size means that the children, staff and parents really get to know each other. There is a tangible sense of community, creating a warm and enabling environment.
The school is set in a stunning landscape and the vast outdoor area invites children to become explorers and seek adventure. Once inside the beautiful school building, Greystone Manor is welcoming and friendly with an unpretentious atmosphere – a real home from home.
There is no substitute for visiting a school and experiencing its atmosphere to appreciate what it can really offer. Please do arrange an appointment to meet me and to have an informal school tour. We would all be delighted to see you here and offer you a very warm welcome.
