Key Stage 1

The majority of our Reception children join us from our Pre-School and the transition is a comfortable and happy one which enables them to start their formal education ready to learn and enthusiastic to get started.

Small class sizes and caring, enthusiastic and committed staff ensure the children’s individual needs are catered for. Each class has a dedicated teacher and staff – pupil ratios are extremely high.

Our Reception and Key Stage 1 classes are housed in the main building in light, colourful and stimulating classrooms. Children throughout KS1 are provided, through a cross curricular approach, to programmes of learning that switch them on and make them enthusiastic and interested in all areas of learning. As our children leave Reception we expect them to be confident in literacy and numeracy, being able to read and write and demonstrate a sound understanding of numbers.

As they move through Key Stage 1 consolidation of key skills and understanding is essential and children perform above the national average of ability.

Children from Reception to Year 2 enjoy weekly lessons in PE, French, Music and Games, all taught by specialist teachers. Year 2 also have the opportunity to learn the recorder.
