Headteacher’s Blog – 18th May

It’s Fruity Friday today and all the staff and children at Ghyll Royd have made a great effort to wear something yellow. They all enjoyed their taster menu of banana based products at playtime too. All of this effort certainly raised awareness of the World Cancer Research Fund and how the money raised goes into vital research into the prevention of cancer. Thanks to Trish Powell and Gaby Howard our Catering Team for getting this off the ground; the event really reminded us all of the importance of eating our five a day every day. Altogether we raised £62.70, thanks to Harper our Head Boy (who looked super in his yellow frock!) for collecting and counting all the donations.

This Week we had many victories at the Wharfedale Festival. Well done to Alex Conway in Year 5 and Harry Burns in Year 3 who came first in their classes and Joseph Howson in Year 2, Luke Tweed in Year 5 and Connor Allan in Year 6 who all came third. Our Speech and Drama Tutor, Jo Tweed has really worked hard with all 32 entries we submitted to take part in the contest. Form 6 found a slot in their schedule to listen to a talk given by Mrs Van Beek who explained to them, in a child centered way, the dangers of alcohol, smoking and drugs. On a lighter note, Reception had a super visit to the Space Centre at Keighley College; they particularly enjoyed taking part in the experiments involving making and launching rockets!
