February 2010
Welcome to Ghyll Royd and to our website which we hope will give you a flavour of our school and will lead to you wanting to come and visit us in person.
The beginning of the year is often a difficult time in schools with dark nights and mornings and poor weather leaving everyone feeling a little low. Not so at Ghyll Royd where there is a real buzz and air of excitement with plenty for us to be celebrating.
We are all delighted with the launch of our new venture 'Babes in the Wood' Day Nursery which has been a tremendous success. Starting on the 5th January 2010 with four registrations, we now have twenty girls and boys who have registered with us ready to join us over the coming weeks.
Our new staff have settled into the school extremely well and are all a very welcome addition to our fabulous team.
Our Form 6 who have all worked hard towards their entrance exams are now in a position to make their decisions. Without exception they have all been offerred places in their first choice of Grammar School (Ermsyteds results still outstanding) and we are delighted with their performance and feel extremely proud of them all and their achievements.
Our next exciting project is the launch of our Navigators Club. In recognition of our working parents and those families needing a more flexible and accomodating service, Ghyll Royd is opening its doors to our Nursery and Reception children for fifty weeks of the year, closing for two weeks over Christmas. This scheme is proving extremely popular with our current parents and is also generating a lot of interest from new parents looking for schools and requiring this type of facility.
The rest of the school is equally busy. Our key stage 1 children are working extremely hard and looking forward to the trips planned as part of their new topics. Meanwhile our Key stage 2 children are now in the throes of rehearsals for our preformance of Hagbane's Doom, a performance which we are sure will thrill and excite us every step of the way.
In amongst all of this excitment we have our Open Day to look forward to and I hope to see many new parents looking around the school with a view to their son or daughter joining us.
I feel extremely privileged to be the Headteacher of such a wonderful and vibrant school and hope I have the opportunity of meeting you all very shortly.
