It was a lovely Thursday afternoon perfect for playing cricket.
It all started against Ashlands School, we won the toss and Captain Harry Bolser elected to field, Lawrence Wallace started the bowling very well taking two wickets. The fielding was immense with Henry Ogilvie catching one person. Ashlands finished with a total of 174.Starting off the batting were two girls from Moorfield, Hannah Heslop and Amelia Fowler, they got Ghyll Royd to 109. Every one batted very well only losing two wickets and everyone contributed to getting Ghyll Royd to a total of 259, a comfortable win.
Against Burley we won the toss and chose to bowl again, the bowling was fantastic taking Burley to a total of 220.
The batting performance was brilliant, Jack Clark and Henry Ogilvie were outstanding. The final score was 243. The referee announced that Ghyll Royd were in the final against Addingham Primary.
Ghyll Royd put into bat first, James Hall and Luc Brown batted well in second place defending their wicket. Lawrence Wallace and Harry Bolser got a partnership of 20 and Harry Bolser hit a six! Ghyll Royd got a good total of 230.
Hannah Heslop took one wicket, it was really close. The fielding was great holding the opposition back. They needed 13 runs off the last over. It was Ogilvie ! They needed 2 runs from the last bowl but Henry held them back.
Ghyll Royd won the tournament by one run.
The win against Addingham meant the Ghyll Royd team were through to the area finals which took place at Keighley Cricket Club yesterday. After initial concern over which Moorfield girls would be able to play as their Interhouse Rounders was on the same day, the team put in an outstanding performance to win all four matches and will now be taking part in the School Sports Partnership Bradford finals on the 18th June.
Well done to the whole team and very many thanks to Ella Scott and Enya Wentling who made a fantastic contribution.
It was a boiling hot afternoon when Ghyll Royd played Froebelian. Froebelian won the toss and chose to field. Ghyll Royd’s opening pair was Jack Mallows and Lawrence Wallace.
They managed to bat for about seven overs before getting out. Jack was the first to leave the field after getting out to a really lucky ball. Just a little while after Lawrence Wallace also got out. James Hall and Harry Bolser came in to bat. The two batsmen batted well. Whilst putting runs on the scoreboard they also defended well.
James and Harry batted till the end of the 20 overs after coming in at the end of the 7th over. They managed to total an astonishing pairing of sixty-four runs. With Harry scoring two sixes and knocking a few fours, James Hall also managed to get a decent total after hitting four fours and grabbing quick singles. Ghyll Royd closed the batting with eighty one runs which was a hard target for Frobelian to beat.
It was now Ghyll Royd’s turn to bowl, with Harry Bolser and Henry Ogilvie opening. Matthew Holland managed to get the first breakthrough by dismissing one of the opening batsmen. Jack Mallows was the next person to gain a wicket after bowling another player out. The third wicket was taken by Harry Bolser to add to Froebelian’s misery. Jack Mallows stepped in to bowl his third and final over, he successfully took another wicket and a Froebelian win looked more and more unlikely. Lawrence Wallace got two quick wickets, one after Gianluca caught the ball. The other wicket keeper Luc Brown caught the ball after a thick edge. Henry Ogilvie took the last wicket. We didn't’ manage to bowl them out but we managed to keep the run rate down and Froebelian ended batting at 31—7.
Ghyll Royd celebrated as they won by 50 runs.
