“Behaviour is outstanding both in class and around the school. All pupils have mature and thoughtful attitudes”. (Ofsted 2008)
Boys and girls of all ages are given positions of responsibility as buddies, class monitors and members of the School and Eco Councils. The boys currently in Form 6 work particularly hard to demonstrate a high level of discipline and show a caring and responsible attitude towards the younger children. They are given a variety of roles to fulfill within the school and are recognized for their achievements, being awarded their Prefect and Head Boy badges. Co-operation and team work is encouraged throughout the school through the merit point and House system.
“Pupils get on with each other very well and boys who are new to the school say it is very easy to settle in”. (Ofsted 2008)
The school promotes traditional values and the children are expected to follow the school’s 5 Cs of courtesy, concentration, care, co-operation and consideration. Pupils are expected to have self respect and to demonstrate a high level of respect to others.
“The boys at Ghyll Royd have very good social skills. They are very welcoming to visitors and courteous to each other and their teachers”. (Ofsted 2008)
We offer an extensive and very varied extra curricular programme to boys and girls from Reception upwards. We believe every child has a particular talent or special interest that needs to be nurtured and staff work hard to ensure that there is something on offer for everyone.
